As a player, Larry was a high school league champion at San Marco's High, a conference singles and doubles champion in 1970 at Cal Poly SLO-receiving 'All American" honors as an NCAA D2 singles quarterfinalist, and lastly, a doubles finalist in 1970. He was inducted into the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame in 2017. In addition to his 40-year USPTA membership, Larry is a graduate of Cal Poly SLO and holds a community college teaching credential.
Upon coaching SBCC to their only state title, Larry was awarded "Coach of the Year" for Western States Conference. He is the only teaching pro to have developed and coached 3 World Junior champions: Mike Falberg (US Open 1980), Tim Trigueiro (US Open 1985), and Kayla Day (US Open 2016; #1 ITF world ranking). He has also coached 3-time national champion and #1 ranked USTA Jr., Spencer Simon, along with dozens of nationally ranked juniors and D1 collegiate All Americans. Five of Larry's players are in the SBART Hall of Fame, one in the Harvard Tennis Hall of fame, and 2 in the SBHS Hall of Fame.
Larry currently sits on the SB Tennis Patrons Board of Directors which supports grassroots opportunities for Santa Barbara youth.
